RAISING FUNDS AND HAVING FUN IN THE SOUTH WEST AREAS
Welcome to the Surfing Bears, we are a very active part of the Sporting Bears Motor Club and organise our own Dream Ride, Static and Social events across the area. We are also invited to several other events across the UK so if you have an interest in Classic, Sports, Super and Hypercars, coupled with a desire to raise funds for Children’s’ Charities and help others whilst having an amazing amount of fun then please get in touch.
Who We Are and What We Do
Back in 2011 I read a post on Pistonheads asking for help with cars at the NEC Classic Show. As a keen photographer I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to help whilst getting some great photographs. During the event I was surprised to do five Dream Rides, why surprised? Well with my humble Impreza WRX in the garage alongside Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and other exotic and classic cars I was not expecting any interest.
Speaking to the passengers that I took out on the day it was clear that the Dream Ride title was aptly named as they all thought the Impreza their dream car as Richard Burns, Colin McRae and World Rally fans.
I enquired about events in the SW area as I had a desire to help and do more for the club in their fund raising activities. Being told that there was no SW representative I attended the 2012 AGM at Gaydon to introduce myself and explain some of the ideas I had for events. Eight weeks later I was voted in as the SW Regional Organiser and have not looked back since! I relish the opportunity to create and organise events and also support and provide guidance for anyone else who catches the ‘Fund Raising Event’ bug. The area membership continues to grow at a healthy pace and we are all very active.

What We Do

Planes, Games and Automobiles – Dream Rides on road and track at Goodwood with a static show which raised £17,500 for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children’s Fund
Supercar Siege at Leeds Castle
– Annual event raising funds for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children’s Fund with nearly £50k raised.
RNAS Yeovilton Families Day and International Air Days – An annual addition to the main event, the Surfing Bears are proud to be invited to display 40 cars at this show. A great day out for all.
Haynes International Motor Museum Bears Ball – A superb night of music, food and friends with a special auction which raised over £8400 for Barnardos.
Teddy Bear Run – Biannual event run by our friends at TBR which sees massed convoy of cars to Mercedes Benz World to fund raise for North Hampshire Deaf Children’s Society and a Winter event which runs from the Let’s Race F1 simulator facility to Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice
Wake Up Ball – Social event at the Sharnbrook Hotel celebrating great friends in a great club.
